I have been working in art education since leaving Glasgow School of Art in 1977. During the first few years I continued to paint and had two very successful exhibitions in what was then the J D Kelly gallery in Glasgow. I then decided to dedicate my time to art education, during this time continued to produce my own work in a limited capacity. Now that I have retired I am ready to put my full efforts into developing my own creative responses.
Initially my work will be based on an expressive, abstract painting process initially working on traditional surfaces like paper and canvas. However I think it is important to continually challenge myself and experiment with different materials and processes and have already been working on a few expressive clothing pieces which could be worn or used as pieces of art in their own right.
My portfolio of work will initially concentrate on producing works that express my experiences of life, inspired by my time in education and by the places I have visited and people I have met on the way. I intend to make experimentation the focal point of my work , exploring different ways to express these experiences rather than developing any specific style.
